BEHAVIOUR PATTERNS
A Data-Driven, Student-Voice, School Presentation on Behaviour Patterns. Presented by Dorian Carey; high school Health & Physical Education Teacher, now Counsellor, Speaker, and Founder of Level Up Counselling.
Helping Young People Understand the Behaviour Patterns
Today’s young people are growing up in a culture filled with competing messages about acceptable and proper behaviours.Every culture, school, family, and individual has behaviour patterns. Every classroom, friendship group and sporting team develops its own attitudes, beliefs and behaviours.
The challenge for young people is understanding those patterns before they become larger wellbeing, behaviour or relationship concerns that we are seeing with the disturbing student behaviours in classrooms and increase in domestic violence and intimate-partner abuse.
Behaviour Patterns is Australia’s first school presentation built around your students’ own anonymous survey responses of their understanding of behaviours. Rather than delivering the same presentation to every school, Behaviour Patterns allows students to see their own collective attitudes and beliefs before exploring the psychological, social and cultural science that influences behaviour.
Students don’t simply hear information. They discover themselves.
why behaviour patterns?
Today’s young people are constantly influenced by: • Social media • Friends • Family • Online personalities • Popular culture • Sporting environments • School culture | These influences shape how students think about: • respect • bullying • emotional regulation • relationships • responsibility • leadership • violence • communication • conflictThe question is no longer whether these influences exist. |
The question is: • What effect are they having on your students?
Behaviour Patterns helps schools answer that question.
A UNIQUE PRESENTATION FORMAT
Unlike a traditional keynotes, Behaviour Patterns is a customised, evidence-informed presentation built around the anonymous attitudes and perceptions of your students.
Students don’t simply listen.They contribute.They analyse.They reflect.They challenge assumptions.
The presentation combines behavioural psychology, data analysis, humour, audience interaction and practical strategies to create meaningful conversations that continue long after the event concludes.
Designed and delivered by an experienced counsellor and former educator, Behaviour Patterns aligns with the Australian Curriculum and addresses the real behavioural and wellbeing challenges facing contemporary schools.
Student survey → data analysis → identification of student understanding → customised presentation → students see themselves reflected in the findings → facilitated education and discussion.
step one
Anonymous Student Behaviour Survey
Prior to the presentation, students complete an anonymous online survey provided by Dorian.
The survey explores students’ perceptions and attitudes surrounding topics such as:
- Respect
- Emotional regulation
- Leadership
- Bullying
- Healthy relationships
- Responsibility
- Social media
- Conflict
- Peer pressure
- School culture
- Help-seeking
- Personal values
- Behaviour online and offline
Individual students are never identified.
The purpose is to understand the collective attitudes of the student cohort.

step two
School Behaviour Analysis
Dorian collates and analyses the anonymous survey data to create a unique presentation directly informed by the students’ responses.
Across each area explored in the survey, Dorian identifies patterns, trends and differences in how students understand behaviour, relationships, conflict, emotional regulation, social dynamics and personal responsibility.
These collective responses are then considered alongside evidence-informed psychological, behavioural and social concepts, allowing the presentation to begin with what students actually think, experience and observe within their own world.
The data becomes the foundation for exploring why certain behaviour patterns develop, how they affect others, and what students can influence in their own choices and responses.
Rather than simply telling students how they should behave, Behaviour Patterns uses their own collective voice as the starting point for self-awareness, critical thinking, personal agency and meaningful behavioural change.

step three
Behaviour Patterns Live Presentation
Students are brought face-to-face with their own collective voice, seeing how their year group responded to key questions about behaviour, relationships, conflict, emotional regulation, social dynamics and personal responsibility.
Dorian uses this student data as the starting point for an engaging and thought-provoking presentation, exploring where students agree, where perspectives differ, and what patterns emerge across their collective responses.
Drawing on evidence-informed psychology, behavioural science and relevant social and cultural research, Dorian helps students explore why certain behaviours occur, how patterns develop, the impact those behaviours can have on others, and how individual choices contribute to the culture of their relationships, peer groups and school community.
Students are encouraged not simply to accept what they are told, but to think critically, recognise their own behaviour patterns and consider the agency they have in what happens next, how they respond, communicate, manage conflict, treat others and take responsibility for their choices.
The goal is to move students from simply recognising behaviour to understanding it, and from understanding it to making better choices.
