CALL/MSG
“Strategic thinking and confidential support for leaders”

Think better. Understand people. Lead deliberately.

Think clearly. Understand people. Lead deliberately.

Leadership gets harder as responsibility increases. You are expected to manage competing priorities, make difficult decisions, lead different personalities, address performance issues and remain composed, often without having a genuinely independent person to think things through with.Leadership Counselling & Strategic Thinking gives middle and senior leaders a confidential space to work through the people, decisions and pressures of leadership.Whether you are facing a difficult situation or simply want to become a better leader, I help you slow the problem down, challenge your thinking and determine your next move.

Who Does the Leader Talk To?

You may be thinking:
  • I need to have a difficult conversation.
  • I am struggling to manage a particular staff member.
  • I have too many competing priorities.
  • I am questioning whether my judgement is fair.
  • I need to hold someone accountable.
  • I am carrying problems that should not belong to me.
  • I have a decision to make and want someone to challenge my thinking.
  • I want to become more deliberate in the way I lead.
You do not need to be struggling. Some leaders come because there is a problem.Others come because they are already performing well and want to become better.

What we work on

image

Manage yourself

Leadership starts with managing your own attention, priorities and responses. We can work on:
  • strategic workload management
  • prioritisation
  • delegation
  • role clarity
  • boundaries
  • decision fatigue
  • competing demands
  • emotional regulation under pressure
The question is not simply:How do I get everything done?It is:What actually deserves my attention as the leader?

MANAGE people

People are often the most complex part of leadership. We can work through:
  • difficult conversations
  • staff performance
  • accountability
  • interpersonal conflict
  • behaviour concerns
  • giving feedback
  • professional boundaries
  • managing defensiveness
  • recurring staff issues
  • deciding when to support, coach, challenge or escalate
The goal is not to become a softer or harder leader. It is to become a clearer one.

Manage your Judgement

Leadership requires decisions about people; and none of us sees every situation completely objectively.Together, we can examine:
  • What actually happened?
  • What am I interpreting?
  • What assumptions am I making?
  • What might be influencing my judgement?
  • What responsibility belongs to me?
  • What belongs to the other person?
  • What would a fair and proportionate response look like?
Self-awareness is not about second-guessing every decision. It is about making better ones.

A Leadership Thinking Partner
Often you do not need another course. You need somewhere to put the real situation on the table.Bring:
  • the conversation you are avoiding
  • the person you cannot quite work out
  • the decision you keep reconsidering
  • the workload that has become unsustainable
  • the team problem you cannot see clearly
  • the leadership pattern you want to change
I am not there simply to agree with you. Sometimes I may confirm that your thinking is sound. At other times I may challenge an assumption, identify another interpretation or ask whether your response matches what has actually occurred.

The purpose is better judgement.

How I Approach Leadership Problems
My approach follows five questions:
1. What happened?
Separate the facts from the interpretation.
2. What is influencing how I see it?
Identify assumptions, emotions, bias and previous experiences.
3. What pattern is occurring?
Look for recurring behaviour, relationship or leadership patterns.
4. What can I influence?
Clarify responsibility, boundaries and personal agency.
5. What is the best next response?
Move from reaction to deliberate action.

Why Work With Me?

My approach combines leadership experience with counselling-informed understanding of human behaviour.I bring more than 14 years of experience across educational leadership, curriculum and student wellbeing, alongside senior quality-assurance work with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA).My QCAA appointments have included:
  • Lead Endorser
  • Lead Confirmer
  • Lead Marker
These roles have required leadership of professional teams, interpretation of standards, moderation of professional judgement, quality assurance and fair, defensible decision-making.
I also hold broader organisational leadership and governance roles as:
  • Director — New Story Group Australia
  • Managing Director — OURstory Foundation
Combined with my work as a counsellor, this gives me a perspective that sits between traditional leadership coaching and purely organisational analysis.I understand both:the responsibility of leading peopleandthe psychology of the people involved.

Why Leadership Counselling?

Leadership problems are rarely just operational. They involve behaviour, relationships, emotion, assumptions, personality and communication. My leadership and counselling background allows us to examine what may be happening beneath the immediate management problem while still answering the practical question:
image
What do I do next?
  • This is not therapy disguised as leadership development.
  • It is counselling-informed leadership thinking designed to help you understand yourself, understand others and lead more deliberately.
What You Can Leave With
Depending on what you bring into the session, you may leave with:
  • clearer priorities
  • a decision
  • a plan for a difficult conversation
  • greater confidence in your judgement
  • clearer boundaries
  • a strategy for managing a staff member
  • a different interpretation of the situation
  • greater awareness of your own bias or patterns
  • a practical next step
Reflection should lead to action.
